Mykolayiv, Ukraine
location - "8th Pier", Mykolayiv, Ukraine The Days of Contemporary Art in Mykolaiv have become one of the most vibrant and talked-about cultural events in the city. The festival has introduced not only new names but also an entire art space.
This year, the art days brought together 17 different events: exclusive film and animation screenings, art and photo exhibitions, performances, lectures, discussions, workshops, presentations, a literary and musical evening, and a forum on the development of creative industries.
"I think these were the most intense days of my life, because we were exploring new locations where no such events had ever been held before. We created our own exhibition and searched for artists from all over Ukraine (and found them!). We showed films that people in Mykolaiv would not have the opportunity to see in cinemas. During the Forum, we discussed the city's development prospects and were surprised to learn how much we have in common with Berlin. We listened to music by a Mykolaiv musician that can only be heard in Europe. In the morning, we painted, drilled, and swept, and in the evening, we welcomed guests. There were many “we did...” moments, and I know there will be even more “we will do” moments, says Daria Frich-Alchina, project manager.
Overall, nearly three months of work on the project can be summarized with the following figures: 15 cities, 35 authors, 223 photographs, 13 paintings, 21 collages, 47 artworks, 3 sculptures, 5 festival films, 4 installations, 2 lectures, 3 video projections, 15 drawings, 9 augmented reality stands, 15 animated films, 1 street sculpture and street art work, 4 speakers, and 11 forum teams. All this took place at two festival locations covering 1,500 square meters, which were visited by about 3,500 people: the art space at DOF (the former House of Navy Officers) and the space at *8Prichal.
