Installation in the project “Sacred space XIII”

Year: 2019
Medium: installation (video projection, two coffee cups with residues, two flashlights, ground coffee)
Dimensions: site-specific
Duration of video projection: 10'04"
Presented at: Sacred space XIII (Lviv, 2019)

Created as part of the Sacred Space project, this installation explores intimacy as a form of the sacred. Transforming an abandoned basement into a space of stillness and presence, the work suggests that holiness can be found within ordinary rituals and gestures of care.

At its center is a video projection showing the process of brewing coffee in a cezve — a simple yet significant morning ritual that, in the artist’s family, symbolizes love and connection. Nearby, two used coffee cups are illuminated by a single flashlight, casting one halo on the wall — a symbol of unity and shared experience. The scent of freshly ground coffee spread across the floor evokes warmth, memory, and quiet presence.

The installation redefines the sacred not as religious, but as deeply personal — a space of tenderness, safety, and emotional resonance where the everyday becomes transcendent.
